Re-Glass is the result of over 2 decades of environmentally conscious action. It all began with the collaborative efforts of Howard Bernstein and Sevak Singh Khalsa back in 1982. These 2 artists came together and began this journey of expression in glass, marveling in the process of carving glass murals with silica sand the main ingredient of glass. Their care for the environment gave birth to a series of works in 1992 called “Nature Restricted” (selected images above). These 27 works were made entirely of reclaimed and recycled materials and depicted the pressure and effects mankind places on the natural world. HighRoadCustom grew from these roots. We have worked diligently to create a workspace and process that honors our planet and minimizes negative impact upon it. We design and engineer all of our equipment and processes to maximize energy efficiency and minimize use of potentially toxic materials. Our thermo-forming ovens are all 3 phase electric kilns made with the highest insulation values and state of the art computerized electronic switching using our exclusive engineered computer program for high heat application. This results in the lowest possible energy usage during all phases of the manufacture of Re-Glass products we even located our studio within a few miles of our raw material suppliers to maximize energy efficiency. HighRoadCustom can say without a doubt that Re-Glass is the most environmentally responsible recycled glass surface being made today.
